All Hands On Deck

All hands on deck as the women get stuck in with the fabric dyeing
What a great week we had this week! On Wednesday, the women got together to successfully produce beautiful pieces of fabric, continuing from the training that we began last week. The fabrics that they had prepared last week were dyed with the colours purple, green and blue. The time and effort that the women took to create the different patterns made it all the more exciting when it was time to unravel them.

The dyeing required all the women to collectively share the workload. Water was put on the fire to boil, so that the dye and other chemicals could be dissolved and then transferred onto the fabric. The women even decided to dye their own clothes, some even making the effort to cycle home to get some more. The colours were very beautiful and we regretted not having brought our own clothes to dye!

When the women unravelled the dyed fabric, it was a proud moment for us all! They are true masterpieces and great additions to Kabeela’s product range.

Now they have learnt all the techniques on how to prepare and dye the fabric, the women are now looking to put what they have learnt into practice and will be independently organising amongst themselves the dyeing of the last two pieces of fabric left over from the training. It is an activity that requires a lot of teamwork for it to be successful and we are certain that the women will be able to work well together to produce something that is even more beautiful.
